Welcome to Scott Class!
Our class is named after the extraordinary Sir Peter Scott — a world-famous conservationist, painter, and broadcaster whose work continues to inspire people today.
Sir Peter Scott co-founded the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and even designed its iconic panda logo. Often described as the father of modern conservation, he also established the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust in 1946, helping to protect wetland habitats and the incredible species that live there.
Scott’s energy and creativity shone through in many ways. During World War II, he designed camouflage patterns for ships to help keep them safe. Later, in 1953, he presented the BBC’s first live natural history programme, broadcasting from his home in Slimbridge and bringing the wonders of wildlife into people’s living rooms for the very first time.
He also used his artistic talent to inspire others. His paintings, such as the famous Taking to Wing, captured the beauty of nature and encouraged people to care for the animals and environments around them.
Another of his great achievements was creating the Red Data Books, which listed endangered species and raised global awareness of animals most at risk of extinction.
Today, Sir Peter Scott’s legacy lives on through conservation efforts worldwide. His passion and dedication remind us how important it is to protect the natural world, and by following in his footsteps, we can all play a part in preserving our planet for future generations.
We are excited to share all the wonderful learning and experiences we will be enjoying throughout this academic year! We begin the Autumn term by reading Asha and the Spirit Bird by Jasbinder Bilan, which will inspire us to write a detailed setting description based on the stunning Himalayan landscape. As budding scientists, we will also explore the topic of Humans, including animals, and even take our learning outdoors with a visit to the forest!
